Portable Weber Charcoal Grill

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

Out shopping for a small grill, I noticed one that seemed expensive which I thought looked more like a roaster than a grill.  Anyway, I did my usual reading of reviews and some research which convinced me to go ahead and buy the Portable Weber charcoal grill.  What a good call that was!  It really is the best portable grill on the market and it’s worth twice the price I paid!  You can easily arrange the charcoal to produce the exact heat you want, even though there is no adjustable-height grilling surface.  I only had to estimate the amount of charcoal and where to place it and it was child’s play to slow-cook buffalo wings and sear fish.  I just placed two piles of charcoal on either side of the center, so that the meat could fit in well in the middle.  As to flavor, most people would say that you get a much better flavor with charcoal, than with a gas grill and if you put a combination of charcoal in different places, you get a better cooking experience all round with the portable Weber charcoal grill.

The Portable Weber charcoal grill is a strong-built grill and I really like the solid feel of the product, although I would have preferred more substantial legs.  They are definitely not weak though, as has been said by some, but for me they are the one slightly negative point of the portable Weber charcoal grill.  It is really easy to control the temperature because of the air-flow vents which regulate the air, top and bottom, maintaining combustion. You get plenty of work space, although the small size of the Portable Weber charcoal grill makes cooking with the coals to one side a bit tricky.  However, this small size means that it is super for fatty foods, like burgers, because you don’t have to stand watching them cook or keep moving them about, as the fat produces a big flame. I cook them for 5 minutes on one side, flip them and leave for 5 more minutes.  One of my favorites is garlic bread with Kaiser rolls and butter.  I let the charcoal burn down for a long time and when it’s good and hot, I grill the rolls with the buttered side down for about 4 minutes.

I have used my portable Weber charcoal grill many times and I would be happy to recommend it as an efficient portable charcoal grill which is sensibly priced.  It would be equally useful for both campers and people in apartments. I can honestly say that the Portable Weber charcoal grill is a good, solid cooking tool, without a lot of fancy features. A Weber charcoal grill will give you good service, so even when I upgrade to a bigger charcoal grill, I will always go back to the Portable Weber charcoal grill to fix a meal for one or two. It is simple to assemble, easy to use, maintain and store and its strong-build makes it durable. What more could you ask!
